It's time to voice your opinion!  Members, make plans to join us Jan 27 for the Annual Planning Meeting where your voice will help decide the direction of our advocacy programs for the upcoming year. Register NOW

Although this is a members only event, there's still time to join LWVOC HERE if you want to help decide how we will empower voters and defend democracy during this important election year.
Leaguers love a parade!  This past weekend, LWVOC marched in the 47th Annual Eatonville Martin Luther King Parade in support of his legacy and #VotesForAll.  Thanks to everyone who planned, participated in, and attended this special parade!

In January, Eatonville is also hosting America’s longest running arts and humanities festival celebrating the cultural contributions of people of African ancestry throughout the Diaspora. For more info: zorafestival.org

The RECAP for January's Hot Topics-Healthy Communities=Healthy Democracy is available HERE.  We've included a review of the event as well as take action resources.  If you were unable to attend or see the Facebook Live stream, click the YouTube recording and subscribe to our channel.  Shown above, top L-R: Freddy Morrell, Rachel Allen, Dr. Bayihhah Maroon, Lee Rambeau-Kemp, Sandi Vidal, Tracy Swanson; bottom: panel, Bronze Sponsors Lyn and David Berelsman. Photo Album HERE  Photography by Carol Wonsavage

Members Only Event
Annual Planning Meeting

We're looking forward to our annual celebration of Black History Month.  Besides our panelists, Dr. Ethel Wellington-Trawick will perform the Black Nat'l Anthem before event and Desmond Reid will be featuring a display of currently banned books.  Reserve your spot today and share this newsletter with your social circle so that everyone can attend this special annual event!
Click for details and registration.
Take a stand against censorship in our schools at Hot Topics. Donate a banned book.

The DEIA committee needs your help. Many beautifully written, illustrated and historic books have been banned from Florida classrooms and school libraries. During Black History Month, we take note of the effort to erase Black history and culture by removing books about Black history or written by Black authors.
Support the FREEDOM TO READ and an independent bookstore by donating a BANNED BOOK to our Banned Book Drive. Desmond Reid, owner of DARE Books will have a selection of books available to purchase and donate at Hot Topics. Look for his table and display as you enter the meeting room.
Alternatively, If you have a book on a banned book list you would like to donate, please bring your book to add to the collection. (The Pen America Index of Banned Books has a list of titles)
All books will be distributed throughout the year at community events. Questions, contact Virginia Meany at vmeany1025@gmail.com.
