VOLUNTEER HAPPENINGS
The Dedication of the EJI Arthur Henry Marker
Many Leaguers (including those shown above) were in attendance at yesterday's unveiling of an historic marker helping to bring light to the unpunished crime of lynched victim, Arthur Henry.  Orlando Sentinel--"The bronze memorial, titled “The Lynching of Arthur Henry,” details the killing of Henry, 35, an Army veteran of World War I who had moved to Orlando with his wife Viola from north Florida to find work and avoid racial violence in Lake City.
Relatives traveled this week to Orlando, some from as far away as Massachusetts and Texas, for the marker dedication at the Wells’ Built Museum of African American History & Culture. None had known of Henry or his lynching until about five years ago when they connected on a genealogy site with Harry Coverston, who was researching the crime."

Valada Flewellyn, Daytona Beach Mayor Derrick Henry who is also a family member.

Tis the season to consider becoming more involved in LWVOC leadership.  The Nomination Committee would like to hear from interested individuals who might be a good fit for our Board of Directors

More than halfway there...we have a tremendous opportunity as a generous $25,000 challenge grant from local supporters has been issued.  Each dollar that you give between now and December 31, 2023, will be matched dollar for dollar. Your gift today will help us get accurate information to voters AND encourage everyone to get to the polls.
Double Your Impact HERE
You can even make a corporate match or an LWVOC membership gift for a special person in your life and that gift will also count towards meeting the challenge grant. The League of Women Voters is committed to defending democracy – but we cannot do it without your help. See your gift go twice as far to ensure every voter’s voice is heard. Contact us at lwvoc.org/donate or P.O. Box 1901, Winter Park, Fl 32790.
