As the year winds down with holidays (make sure to sign up for our LWVOC HOLIDAY PARTY - 12/13/2023) taking precedence over most of our schedules, it's a good time to look back at LWVOC 2023 accomplishments. This week, we make note of the popularity of HOT TOPICS.  Over 5100 guests (either in-person or online viewers) took part in the monthly program held at the Winter Park Events Center. If you missed any, catch up by visiting our Youtube Channel and read the full RECAPS HERE  with guest biographies, reviews, and calls to action.

VOLUNTEER HAPPENINGS
The DEIA Committee has a goal of informing and educating our members about our history. We encourage everyone to honor the memory of Arthur Henry by attending the following two events surrounding the dedication of an historic marker for Mr. Henry. who was one of 319 lynching victims in Florida. We hope our League will be a visible presence at the ceremonies as we stand in solidarity with the African American community.

Dec 5 from 5-6:30PM at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 604 W. Jackson St, Orlando
Stories of resilience and recovery by Henry family members who fled the racist terrorism of their family birthplace after the lynching.

Dec 6 from 10A-12P at the Wells' Built Museum complex, 511 W South St, Orlando
Dedication ceremony including remarks by Senator Geraldine Thompson, representatives of the Equal Justice Initiative and members of the Henry Family.

We have a tremendous opportunity as a generous $25,000 challenge grant from local supporters has been issued.  Each dollar that you give between now and December 31, 2023, will be matched dollar for dollar. Your gift today will help us get accurate information to voters AND encourage everyone to get to the polls.
Double Your Impact HERE
You can even make a corporate match or an LWVOC membership gift for a special person in your life and that gift will also count towards meeting the challenge grant. The League of Women Voters is committed to defending democracy – but we cannot do it without your help. See your gift go twice as far to ensure every voter’s voice is heard.
