The 2023 Florida Legislative Session ends tomorrow and to make sense of ALL that has taken place, we've invited journalists who've been covering the session to help us "debrief" the many new laws approved by the state Legislature and Governor.  Join us at next week's HOT TOPICS  “Shock and Law: Florida Voters Face Election Consequences” which takes a hard look at this flurry of new laws.  The journalist panel will discuss a six-week abortion ban, voter suppression, concealed weapons, K-12 school vouchers and targeting of the LGBTQ community. Visit the Hot Topics page for full details and panelists' bios.

This month's HT Overtime discussion will be held in the SECOND floor Library meeting room next door, starting at 1:10PM.  Bring your follow-up questions and join us. Parking is FREE at Winter Park Events Center as well as surrounding parking lots (parking map) and at the Lakeside Crossing parking garage across the street attached to Chuy's Restaurant.

DEIA Workshop, an Inspiring Success
Over 40 members of the LWVOC (participants shown below) recently spent a fruitful Saturday morning engaged in important conversation about our League and how we become a League where all feel invited to share their ideas and can count on being listened to. The workshop was made possible by a generous grant from the Central Florida Foundation in partnership with the League of Women Voters Orange County.
Entitled "Where Do We Go From Here?", the DEIA workshop allowed attendees to share stories about themselves and backgrounds and brainstorm ideas for improvement. We agreed on the need for further development and growth and a plan for success.
When asked, "Shall we do this again?" 100% of attendees said yes!
Our co-facilitators, Rachel Allen and Hank Van Putten of the Peace and Justice Institute were fabulous. Their expertise and camaraderie encouraged candid and thoughtful connection.
Congratulations to all who made the workshop a resounding success. We look forward to the "sequel" and encourage all League members to join us on this journey.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month; the Parramore Community Engagement Council (PCEC) Mental Health Fair was held Saturday 4/29/23 at the Grand Ave Neighborhood Center and LWVOC was there, educating and registering voters.  Participants shown above including Commissioners for D-6, Bakari Burns and D-5, Regina Hall.  Leaguers-Emily Glickstein, Sharon Wiss-Jacob, Sylvia McMillon, Linda Dalton, Tara Russakov, Judi Sanborn, and Doug Walke
