What's Happening?
Orange County
The Walt Disney Co. pushed through a set of restrictive development covenants that basically disarms the new board that was installed after the state's takeover of its Reedy Creek District.

Florida
Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law a bill that directs $711 million into affordable housing.  Many cheered the move but others felt it didn't go far enough with helping Floridians who are struggling to pay rent.  Learn more HERE and ready your questions for the mayors shown below about how local communities might utilize this new money.
DO NOT DELAY!  Registrations are filling up!  Our own Linda Chapin, former Orange County Mayor and LWVOC President will be moderating the program which asks the simple but complex question of our attending Mayors..."What keeps you awake at night?"

Voting Rights VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Returning Citizens Coordinator at the League of Women Voters of Florida is asking for your help.  They are doing a postcarding project in which the outreach is to previously incarcerated individuals informing them that under Amendment 4, these individuals now have the right to vote again under certain conditions.
How it works: the coordinator will be sending out blank postcards to the local league leaders in which they will fill out the contact and addresses to be sent out to the Returning Citizens, using volunteers from that local league. After that has been completed, they must be sent out to the Returning Citizens.

On the postcards are resources that the returning citizens can access to get their voting rights back.

If you are willing to help, thank you! All is needed is a good mailing address so that blank postcards can be mailed to you, the amount of postcards you would like, and the amount of postage you would like us to cover when these postcards get sent back out on your end.

It is also highly important that you sign this certification form, along with anyone who may be helping. It explains that all contents of the RC contact list that I will be giving you must be destroyed, as all the information is confidential. Thank you once again and I hope to hear back from you.

LWVFL has endorsed the Right to Clean Water! In support of establishing our basic right to clean and healthy water, our League has committed to helping get this citizen initiative on the 2024 ballot. The goal is to collect 90,000 signed petitions in Orange County.
Please visit our Volunteer Page and make a plan to spend some time outside this weekend or later this month collecting signatures. Petitions, clipboards & literature will be provided for this popular cause at event sites.
