Three civic groups are collaborating to plan a Centennial celebration event, “The Heart of the Matter Is Voting,” set for 2 p.m. Feb. 15 at Orlando’s Rio Pinar Country Club.
The groups are the League of Women Voters of Orange County, Florida; the Orlando- Winter Park Branch of the American Association of University Women; and the Central Florida International Black Women’s Congress.
Shown above right, selecting the tea-time refreshments menu and decorations are Maria Luciano of Rio Pinar; Dr. Leslie Sue Lieberman, AAUW president; and Joan Erwin, chair of the League’s History Committee.
The program will feature live music, refreshments, costumed historical visitors, and presentations headlined by the League’s Linda Chapin and Martha Haynie.
The event will commemorate the 2020 Centennial of the 19th Amendment that granted women the right to vote, plus a convergence of other milestone anniversaries next year, including the 100th birthday of the national League of Women Voters on Feb. 14 and the 200th birthday of suffragist leader Susan B. Anthony on Feb. 15.
