Orlando Sentinel columnist Scott Maxwell talks about election results as Hot Topics goes into dark mode. That’s right; we’re flipping the switch and having dinner instead of lunch, and Maxwell is our featured speaker. No doubt he will have a few words to say about the Nov. 3 election and the season leading up to it. Relax and enjoy Scott’s pithy observations about politics — from the good and bad to “What the heck just happened here?”
Dinner buffet at 6 p.m., with the program beginning at 6:45 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m. A night to remember, for certain!

LWVOC members Kathy Sheerin, Barbara Lanning, and Gina Hall celebrated Election Hero Day by delivering treats to the Supervisor of Elections office.
It's the busiest time of the year for them and we appreciate their countless hours of preparation to make sure that Orange County voters can make their voice heard by voting.
Leaguers Saudi Ellis and Sue Gannon spent a few hours at the fabulous Hunters Creek Farmers Market on Sunday October 18. The weather was gorgeous and perfect for reminding market visitors about early voting and VOTE411. If you're in the neighborhood on the 3rd Sunday except December, it's worth the trip! https://www.charitiesofhunterscreek.org/monthly-market

Gun Violence Prevention Co-chair Linda Coffin attended a tabling event in St Petersburg with Dr Myron Rolle, a pediatric neurosurgeon at Nemours Children's Hospital. They gave out about 250 gun locks and gun safety information.
Melinda Wright & Susan Sussman at the Macedonia Church in Eatonville "Know Before You Vote" event which had over 100 community members in attendance.

LWVOC Co-President Kathy Schmitz was interviewed recently by the Orlando Business Journal about the upcoming election and how a new county mayor and commissioners might affect decisions about the TDT (Tourist Development Tax).
“At least half of the people will be new to the commission, as well as the mayor," Schmitz said. "That could change the leaning of the board in any direction."
She added the new mayor and BCC can decide if they want to adjust local hotel tax policy. Read the full article: https://loom.ly/WPfNkRw
League members from Orange and Seminole County recently attended the Blind Experience sponsored by MetroPlan Orlando and the City of Winter Park in partnership with the Lighthouse Central Florida. Attendees celebrated the independence of blind and visually impaired people and raised awareness of Florida's White Cane Law. At the end of the program, attendees had an opportunity to experience "walking in the shoes" of a blind person by crossing the street blindfolded with a guide. On Thursday Oct 18, members of the Voter Services Committee attended the FL Federation of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Chapters Annual HBCU Fair at the Rosen Centre. High school students from Central Florida were bused in to attend a Fair featuring Historically Black Colleges, military opportunities, service organizations, and of course voter outreach! There were over 1000 students registered for the event who also enjoyed high energy music, food, and a few dance offs! VS members Saudi Ellis, Melva Ross, and Gina Hall never sat down!

We have several upcoming opportunities in the community to inform voters and defend democracy. Be an on-the-ground advocate and empower voters by volunteering at one of our upcoming events! MEMBERS only.

As the dust settles after this contentious election season, it's imperative that we come together to connect with our community. Truly, we are stronger together and at this event, we can choose to build bridges by engaging with our neighbors.

There's a very important question on the BACK of your ballot, the very last vote that you can make and it's about the funding of our Orange County Public Schools.
Lisa Bourne spoke at our October Hot Topics about the renewal of this previously approved "one mill" funding. We've queued it to exactly where she is at the podium so TUNE IN for a couple of minutes to understand WHY it's so important to approve.

We have RECOMMENDATIONS about the proposed Amendments on the mid-term ballot. Read the complete guide put forth by the League of Women Voters of Florida about the 3 amendments on this year's ballot. READ & SHARE this guide HERE.
