LWVUS is joining No Kings 2 as a national partner this Saturday, October 18. The LWVFL has prepared a Rally and Protest Guide which we encourage you to read. Please remember that we are a non-partisan group, especially if you're wearing or carrying LWV messaging!

Want to walk with other Leaguers at the No Kings Rally at Orlando City Hall this Saturday?
Co-President Kathy Schmitz (she'll be wearing purple with an LWV sign) invites you to meet up and walk over to the main rally together. She’ll be on the north sidewalk of Seneff Plaza (in front of the Dr. Phillips Center, halfway between the Center and Orange Ave) from 9:30–10:15 AM.

🅿️ Suggested parking: Administration Parking Garage, accessible from Liberty Street.

Let’s stand together to Defend Democracy!

No kings...only pride! AFTER the rally, have some lunch then join us at Lake Eola (line up at 3PM) for the Pride Parade. We'd love a big turnout from our members. For sign-up details, suggested clothing options, etc. visit  Pride Parade HERE.

Voter Services at Nat'l Night Out
League Members Mary Ann Coffey and Jennifer Willman conducted voter outreach at Lee Road Safe Neighborhood Programs National Night Out event at Oh Hey Cafe Social Hall. A special guest dropped in to strike a pose with Jennifer!

MetroPlan Orlando, community partners, and Orange County government hosted the annual "Blind Experience" in Orlando on Oct 15. Marilyn Baldwin introduced the program and spoke about the importance of safety precautions to residents with vision impairment. For County Commissioner Maya Uribe, prioritizing pedestrian safety is key to supporting a healthy community for all.
To increase awareness, attendees were invited to experience navigating a downtown street while blindfolded to learn more about visual impairment.

Upcoming Events

November's Hot Topics is exploring the oft controversial topic of tourism taxes.  The Tourism Development Tax has been a source of argument for years in Orange County. Some leaders have wanted to divert a portion of the funds for transportation or affordable housing projects but they can’t because of the way the tax law reads. More than $100 million last year went directly to Visit Orlando, a nonprofit that encourages tourists to visit Orange County. Some say that’s too much money, but hotel interests say the tax shouldn’t be changed. There appears to be some movement to change the laws to allow the county to give Visit Orlando less money or to raise the 6 percent tax on hotel rooms. Which option is best for Orange County? Come to the Nov. 12 Hot Topics to hear what is being proposed and decide for yourself.  All the details HERE.
