Literally, just a FEW seats left.  We knew it was going to be sell-out!  Lunch provided by Cuisiniers caterer is a tasty plant-centric meal with fish/meat options.
We’re giving the mic to Orlando Sentinel columnist Scott Maxwell to talk about none other than it’s a HOT MESS: THE STATE OF POLITICS AND JOURNALISM IN FLORIDA.

As the sign says-coming soon! You may have noticed some changes at lwvoc.org lately. The digital branding and marketing experts at LaunchThat! are currently putting the finishing touches on our new face to the world. We have studied pages from leagues across the country and combined that with LaunchThat! expertise to come up with something completely new.  Continue reading HERE.

This week's webinar will feature a presentation centered around League leadership. The League of Women Voters Collier County has completed three years of a successful League Leadership Program, designed to recruit and develop future leaders.

Pat Plummer and Diane Preston Moore of LWV of Collier County will join our Lunch & Learn on Friday, June 3 at 1:00 p.m. (ET) to share the design, implementation, evaluation and outcomes of the program with League members across the state.

Visit LWVFL Gun Reform and learn about our statewide efforts, links to resources, and proposed steps forward to combat the scourge of gun fatalities.  And if you're ready to reach out to your representatives, find their contact info HERE.
Email LWVOC member Eugene Stoccardo if you're interested in our League's committee.  Carol Wonsavage, who has served as our interim Chair, has put together this useful list of links: Gun Safety Resources
Feel the urge to do something NOW and want to join like-minded individuals?  Consider this local event:
Moms Demand Action, often a partner with the LWVOC, has planned an event on June 5 at Hammered Lamb to write postcards to legislators and voters: https://act.everytown.org/event/moms-demand-action-event/44938/signup/

Board Member Opening
We have regretfully accepted the resignation of Shan Rose as Treasurer effective immediately who has filed to run for HD41 and as you all know from your close reading of the Bylaws and Policies & Procedures, she is no longer eligible to serve as a result.
Share your financial expertise as our new Treasurer.  We have experienced former Treasurers who are ready to help you transition into that role.
LWVOC is starting a podcast.  We're first starting with interviews of members and non-members related to voting. Some of the questions will be related to the first time you voted, thoughts about voting, why you vote, etc.  Our hope is to launch the first episode by the end of June.
The podcast will move on to other topics of interest to the club as we progress through the year.

Any questions, or if you want to volunteer to be interviewed, please reach out to Susan Baxter at baxtersc@gmail.com

Volunteers Needed--VOTE411 is the League’s online Voter Guide that will be available at the end of June.  We are working on our local version right now.  We would like to have the candidate descriptions and questions in Spanish as well as English. We need a couple of volunteers with proficiency in writing Spanish to translate for us.  If you have such skills and would like to volunteer, please let us know.  Contact Kathy Sheerin kathysheerin.lwvoc@yahoo.com
or Terry Gillam tsgillam42@gmail.com
Teachers Wanted!
The Education Committee is looking for local educators who would like to participate in this year's Harvard Case Method Civics Workshop, AUG 20.  All training, case materials, and ongoing teacher support is FREE.  Learn more HERE about nominating a local teacher.  Nomination deadline is JULY 10.

The Adopt-A-Precinct (AAP) program is a community partnership initiated by the Supervisor of Elections.   Participating organizations “adopt” a precinct, or several precincts, during an election by providing the people to staff the polling place for that precinct. The Supervisor of Elections then writes a check to the organization, rather than paying the individual workers. The AAP program funnels tax dollars to AAP groups and back into the community through their efforts.
