The League of Women Voters of Orange County has a history of more than 80 years in this community as an activist, grassroots organization whose members believe citizens should play a critical role in advocacy.  We do not endorse or oppose political candidates or parties at any level of government.  Our advocacy positions are based on the merits of each issue, after careful study and consensus.

We have a special gift of memories for all of you.  Enjoy watching One Year Wiser, 2021 on our YouTube Channel as we revisit our challenging but successful year of advocacy.
Be sure to "Subscribe" to our channel for all the latest video updates and click the "bell" for notifications.  We've added a new Playlist, Video Montages, so you can see all our memory videos from the last few years.

Rest in Power, Former Orange County NAACP Branch President Beverlye C. Neal

Mrs. Neal's legacy as a warrior for democracy, dedicated public servant, and devoted family member is eloquently presented in her obituary HERE.
Below, former LWVOC Co-President Sara Isaac remembers her influence:
"Beverlye Colson Neal was indeed a fierce champion of civil rights, but she was also gentle and dignified with a positive spirit. When she spoke truth to power, which was often, she made it rude not to listen - which could shut the domineering voices right up and create a space for dialogue. I loved watching her take over a room of Orlando‘s powers that be. I first reached out to Ms. Beverlye in 2017 to help form the First 50 Coalition and push for environmental justice in Central Florida. I always felt we had a special spark, but I think that was one of Beverlye’s superpowers – I think she made most people feel that way. She leaves Central Florida far better than she found it. I will miss her deeply."

From our DEI Committee:  Another goodbye, and this time to renown feminist icon, bell hooks
Last week, we learned of the loss of bell hooks– a beloved and towering thinker, writer, and activist in the Black feminist community and human family. hooks passed away on Wednesday, December 15th at the age of 69 after an extended battle with an illness. As we mourn her loss, we honor her life, her legacy, and the impact of her ideas and advocacy on the work that we continue to do in our quest for racial and gender justice and human rights.
AAPF’s executive director, Kimberlé Crenshawshared her thoughts with the New York Times about hook's legacy.
