#throwbackthursday  Who is that smiling and fashionable League member from the early 2000's?  None other than Harriet Lake, philanthropist and style icon as well as a champion for women's rights.  Here she's shown celebrating at a League gala celebrating the 19th Amendment.  For those who are younger or haven't been a League member for long, you can learn more about Harriet's legacy HERE (she passed in 2018 at 96) and don't forget to visit Harriet's Orlando Ballet Center site to learn about their upcoming season.

Were you celebrating the 19th Amendment yesterday?  Shown below left, our Instagram@LWVOC post and below right, longtime members Sue and Mercedes partaking in some League celebration from 20??

National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) is an annual observance held in August to highlight the importance of vaccination for people of all ages.
Communities across the country use the month each year to raise awareness about the important role vaccines play in preventing serious, sometimes deadly, diseases across the lifespan. To learn more about NIAM visit the CDC website.
The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Committee keeps us informed with a broad spectrum of information helping to educate our membership and enhance our perspective.  Visit their page if you're interested in joining them or have your own ideas to share.
AUGUST is also Black Owned Business Month and since the recent COVID surge has many of us back to shopping online, follow this link for a short article and a list of 181 businesses:  How to Support Black Owned Businesses Online

"Supporting Black-owned businesses helps provide much-needed stability to business owners that have been hard hit by the pandemic."

MEMBER

HIGHLIGHT

Our membership runs the gamut of age, race, and sex and we want to highlight as many of you as possible.  With the last year limiting our social/business gatherings, it's even more important that all of us get to know each other.  Fill out the Member Highlight form and we'll take it from there!
Sadly, this week we highlight a longtime member who has passed, leaving behind a legacy of involvement and commitment to a variety of causes.
