#throwbackthursday  Where you there...at our last in-person Hot Topics March 2020 at the Sorosis of Orlando Woman's Club?  Snapshots shown of attendees, none of us realizing that it would be the very LAST time that the LWVOC would be able to schedule a luncheon at this historic building.  A statement from Sorosis:
"Sad to say that we are selling our building that has seen so many good times for so many good causes. Please join us for memorial slideshow, estate sale and light refreshments Saturday March 27th. Open house from 10:30 to 2:30."

From all of us at the League of Women Voters Orange County, THANK YOU Sorosis of Orlando for the memorable events that we were able to host at your wonderful establishment.

If you're new to the League or have been looking for another way to engage in volunteerism since our election 2020 efforts, we need your attention.  The biggest news in the FL Legislature is the pending passage of voting restrictive bills.  Learn about these bills, the efforts of the League to fight this attack on the election system and more.  Read HERE and consider attending the LWVFL Lunch & Learn tomorrow.  Details below.

MEMBERS ONLY~A very important discussion tomorrow as LWVFL confronts the efforts of the FL Legislature to restrict voting.

This week's webinar will feature
Eliza Sweren-Becker from the Brennan Center for Justice.

After historic turnout and increased mail voting in 2020, state lawmakers across the country are introducing restrictive voting legislation. Each year, the Brennan Center publishes regular roundups of voting legislation around the country. In 2021, these updates have taken on new importance.
Legislators in 43 states have carried over, prefiled, or introduced more than 250 bills that would make it harder to vote — over seven times the number of restrictive bills as compared to roughly this time last year. These bills primarily seek to limit mail voting and impose stricter voter ID requirements. Eliza will join us this Friday to discuss the legislation moving in Florida and across the nation.

The League is actively fighting this type of legislation within the Florida legislature. After this live Lunch & Learn, a recording of the program will be made available to local Leagues to repurpose and aid in educating the public on these detrimental pieces of legislation.

  • Discussion: What is happening across the nation in state legislatures? What is happening in Florida specifically?
  • Q&A Session with Eliza and LWVFL President Patricia Brigham
  • LWVFL Updates & News
To join, please register below. The Zoom platform does have some limitations, so the live version of the webinar will be limited to the first 500 attendees.
If you are unable to join live, look out for the recording of the webinar. It will be published in our biweekly newsletter: The Florida Voter.
