Open Primaries/Amendment 3

Published on 7/22/2020

The Florida Supreme Court has approved the All Voters Vote Open Primary initiative for the November ballot.  It has been officially certified as Amendment 3. Florida voters will now have the chance to allow Florida’s 3.7 million independents to vote in every taxpayer funded election. If passed, for the first time, EVERY Floridian will have real choice!

The Florida LWV authorized a study which found that Open Primaries provide access to the broadest slate of candidates which would increase voter participation.  The following position was approved by the 2017 League Convention: Recommend statewide use of an Open Primary system that would allow for the broadest possible voter participation, including No Party Affiliation and Minor Party affiliated voters.

All Voters Vote, Inc. is leading the campaign in support of Amendment 3.

Most Floridians don’t even know the issue of Open Primaries will be on the ballot. A coalition is being built that will engage millions of Floridians in a simple conversation: “Don’t you think it's time to let all voters vote?”
