"When America gets a cold, African American communities get pneumonia."  It may be an old adage, but recent news about the effect of COVID-19 on these populations have proven to be true.  Hispanic communities are close behind.  Although both groups are minority in number, the death counts in Florida are heavily weighted with their members.

Knowledge For Living (a 501c3) is a grassroots community service organization, a United Way agency and headed by LWVOC member Aminah Hamidullah. KFL has been operating and serving members of the Parramore community for over 15 years. The organization works to empower individuals and families with programs to achieve self-sufficiency by using financial literacy, employment, nutritional, and educational strategies to improve their quality and standard of life. One of their targeted programs is the Adopt-a-family program and they currently have 32 families they are working with. The families are screened and are assisted until they achieve their self-sufficiency goals. During these unprecedented times, help is needed more than ever during for these families.  Although the LWVOC is not partnered with KFL, we are providing this information if you want to help make a difference for a needy family.
