Warriors for Democracy book launched with style

Festivities and fun were the order of the day March 31, when Orange County Leaguers celebrated the publication of their very own history book, Warriors for Democracy.

The beautiful lakefront home of Steve and Sue Foreman provided an elegant setting for the lively launch party. More than 75 members received their copies of the long-awaited book and collected autographs from their friends while enjoying the piano music by David Goethe, finger foods, wine, and champagne.

Leading the toasts were Joan Erwin, History Committee chair; Ann Patton, book author; Orlando Sentinel Columnist Scott Maxwell and Linda Chapin, who wrote the book Foreword and Afterword, respectively; and Jill Shargaa, book designer.

The star of the show was Warriors for Democracy itself, a coffee-table-style book with 144 full-color pages, lavishly illustrated and published in both soft cover and hard-cover formats. It tells the story of 80 years’ crusades of the League of Women Voters of Orange County to empower voters and defend democracy.

The party was sponsored by the History and Membership Committees. Nancy Galyean was chief event planner, and the champagne was donated by Rebecca Pando.  Photography provided by Carol Wonsavage.
