Thanksgiving is a time for joyful celebration, yet also a time of reflection. As you prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends Thursday, take a moment to reflect on all that you have to be grateful for. This is also a time to think about those who need your help.

The Board of the League of Women Voters of Orange County joins us in being thankful for YOU. We thank you for your support of our mission to register, educate and empower voters in Orange County. Our grassroots work powered by volunteers like you is more important than ever. Your support will help ensure we continue to increase civic engagement and voter participation at this critical moment in our nation’s history

We're dedicated to defending democracy — but we can’t do it without your help. Thank you for considering a gift to the League of Women Voters of Orange County today. Donations are tax-deductible and go directly to support our work. Our deepest thanks for your support. May Thanksgiving be a warm and joyful one for you and your family

In League,
Co-Presidents Barbara Lanning & Nicolette Springer

How to Celebrate Native American Heritage Month from the First Nations website:

"This month, it is indeed a time to celebrate Native cultures. But we also challenge people to do even more. Sure, warm up with a pumpkin spice latte, but remember that pumpkin is an Indigenous food from North America, or watch First Nations’ documentary GATHER, and remember where our food comes from. We are not the “Indigenous Creatures” or “Something Else” media has downplayed us to be. Again, we remind people that our beauty and resilience has never ceased to exist. We’ve been here all along, every November, every month, every year. And that is a reason to celebrate and more."

The Natural Resources Committee has been busy urging volunteers to collect and recycle campaign signs.  Shown above L-R: Kimberly Buchheit, Kay Hudson, Val Mobley
“The political environment is so combative, and I think these signs make it feel that way," she said. "And I think anybody would have a great sense of satisfaction in knowing that these signs aren’t just there for political reasons — that they can be turned into something better." Kay Hudson
WorldOrlando contacted LWVOC to organize a meeting on Nov. 21. Their organization implements the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), which is designed to be a professional exchange between emerging leaders in other countries and professionals here. Former League President, Leesa Bainbridge, met with one of their projects back in 2018. This request was on behalf of 8 participants visiting with 3 liaisons on a program titled “Current U.S. Social, Political, and Economic Issues for Young European Leaders III.” The visitors are government officials, business leaders, politicians, civic and community leaders, journalists, and academics.

Thanks to the Sierra Club for including the LWVOC (Barbara Lanning attendee shown above) for a Day in the Garden in Apopka: Agroecology, Food Sovereignty, and Community Gardening with the Farmworker Assn of FL

"Learned so much about the connections between us, the environment, our food, how it is produced, and the heroic role played by farmworkers. Day included a trip through the garden and a fabulous Mexican lunch under the trees.
As you sit down to your Thanksgiving table thank a farmworker!"
