From: Lisa K Adkins

Fellow Leaguers,

First, we hope this note finds you appropriately prepared to "hunker down" for Ian and that you have the appropriate comfort food & safety preparations to see you through the storm securely.

We are excited to share that the LWVOC DEIA Committee is partnering with the Peace and Justice Institute to bring two workshops that will highlight our dedication to make the League an organization that is open and accessible to everyone.

Our national, state and local League have placed an emphasis on becoming a more welcoming and inclusive organization for all. These workshops are designed to help us do just that. In addition to the organizational goals, we believe these sessions will be thought-provoking and worthy of your valuable time. You will gain improved listening and communication skills that can benefit your league relationships as well as your personal and professional relationships.

We highly recommend you attend, not only for the reasons mentioned above but to also show your support for our dedicated DEIA committee. Please go to the events calendar and sign up for both sessions of the workshop, October 8th and 15th. If financial assistance is needed, please reach out to either of us.  Also note that DEIA Co-Chair, Marilyn Baldwin will be a special guest of LWV Palm Beach County at their DEIA event.  More Info Here

Thanks for doing your part to make our league the best it can be! Stay safe!!

Let's talk about SEX.  Sex Equality, that is.  Make plans to attend this exciting event with our dynamic panelists/moderator.
The overturn of Roe v. Wade made many people realize that women’s rights are human rights -- bodily autonomy, reproductive justice, equal pay, free or affordable childcare, freedom from domestic violence, and access to a full education are human rights. With the passage of the ERA, these become guaranteed rights for all. The time has come to secure equal rights for women and take the ERA across the finish line.

What's Happening?
Orange County
Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Polk and Lake counties were all put under hurricane warnings Tuesday night as the system could bring potentially “catastrophic” flooding and hurricane-force gusts to Central Florida, forecasters said. “I want you to listen very carefully to what I’m about to say,” Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said at a press briefing Tuesday night. “It is recommended that residents consider evacuating flood prone areas sooner than later. We want to take it seriously. We do not want to have a situation where because of flooding, persons cannot leave their neighborhoods.” -Orlando Sentinel

Warriors for Democracy
What person or group do you believe has been a Warrior for Democracy this past year? In a time when democracy is being challenged on many fronts, who has gone above and beyond to defend democracy in Orange County?

Our first honoree was then State Senator Geraldine Thompson for her challenge of the Governor's appointment of an unqualified candidate for the Florida Supreme Court.
You now get a chance to select the next awardee!
