The League of Women Voters of Orange County has a history of more than 80 years in this community as an activist, grassroots organization whose members believe citizens should play a critical role in advocacy.  We do not endorse or oppose political candidates or parties at any level of government.  Our advocacy positions are based on the merits of each issue, after careful study and consensus.

Members of the LWVOC visited the Orange County Supervisor of Elections office with a few "goodies" in appreciation of the hard work of their dedicated staff.  Leaguers (in purple l. to r.) shown with them:  Terry Osborne, Barbara Lanning, Sue Gilman and Nancy Nix.

Time's running out!  We need your registration for our Annual Meeting as soon as possible.  If you've never been, click on the schedule below to see how the evening will run. (hint...fun, friends, food, business, celebration)
Vegetarian option available upon request, please contact Pat Grierson
*New members-only document also now available: Bylaws Amendment Explanation  Also, watch for upcoming members-only email concerning year end budget/financials.

Hot Topics Luncheon Programs Are Back!

VOTER CONFUSION CONTINUES, May 11, 11:30 AM

Do you know what election laws and districts will prevail for the August and November elections? Probably not, which is why new election laws and redistricting will be our first Hot Topics program of the season. Here are the facts:

  • Federal Judge Walker declared the 2021 SB 90 election law unconstitutional, winning the lawsuit led by Florida League of Women Voters. But Gov. DeSantis has vowed to appeal.
  • Florida Legislature claims they are relinquishing their constitutional duty and their maps and requesting a special session to draw the Congressional maps the way Gov. DeSantis wants them.
  • Judge Walker put Florida under “preclearance status” for violation of the Voter Rights Act and the 15th amendment, meaning any new election law must be approved by the court, leaving 2022 SB 524 election legislation up in the air.
Get the most up-to-the-minute election law and redistricting briefing from the experts--Orange County Supervisor of Elections Bill Cowles and Florida League of Women Voters President Cecile Scoon, moderated by Mike Lafferty—while you enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by Cuisiners in the magnificent and new Winter Parks Events Center.  Bring a friend but register early, seating is limited!

LEAGUERS LEAD~ With the help of longtime League content creator, Dean Johnson, we are beginning a new series of Member Highlights.  Our featured member is shown above right, Mary Dipboye with Natural Resources Chair Kay Hudson.

Mary says she is a League member “because I am passionate about good government and environmental protection, and the League provides me the opportunity to work on both at the same time. I especially enjoy working with people who ‘show up’ and become League members. They are curious, smart, hard-working and willing to do the work needed to study and advocate for issues.

“This is my tribe.”  Continue reading HERE.
