Join us on Wednesday, Sept. 12 for Hot Topics when experts will examine some of the proposed Constitutional Amendments on the November ballot. The 12 - possibly 13 - proposals is the longest list on a ballot since 1998. In some cases three or four disparate proposals have been linked together in one amendment. Proposals range from restoring ex-felons rights to school board term limits. Several groups, including the League, have filed suit to get some amendments taken off the ballot.
The experts are:
Veteran journalist Mike Lafferty (moderator) University of Central Florida Associate Political Science Professor Aubrey Jewett Ninth Judicial Circuit Public Defender Robert Wesley Larry Hopkins a lay minister at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Eatonville will discuss the importance of Amendment 4 - restoring felons rights. Rachel Sines a survivor of sexual assault following a 2007 home invasion, will speak in support of Amendment 6 at the Wednesday Hot Topics on Amendment Confusion. Her attacker was eventually given four life sentences. Rachel believes speaking out takes back the power from the attacker. And a late addition to the panel: Tiffany Moore Russell speaking on Amendment 10
