Dear LWVOC Members:

At 6:00 pm, Wednesday, October 2, we will have a special-called Membership Meeting at Credo Conduit to address two important issues. Please make plans to attend.

  1. 501(c)3 Conversion. Like more than 170 local and state Leagues around the country, the LWVOC Board of Directors approved a proposal to convert our entire organization from a 501(c)4 to a 501(c)3. Mr. Tom Carson, national League conversion expert (and spouse of LWVUS President Chris Carson) will lead our discussion of this proposal from 6-7 pm.   2. Legislative Update. The second topic of the evening will occur 7-8 pm as we are joined by our LWVFL Lobbyist and LWVOC Juvenile Justice Co-Chair Nicolette Springer to discuss our LWVFL Legislative Priorities for 2020. Nicolette is traveling statewide to meet in person with each League chapter. This will be a critical legislative session in Florida and we need to be ready to protect our positions and fight voter suppression.

As the Membership will vote on the 501(c)3 conversion at our Annual Meeting in April 2020 and because the conversion requires the addition of some IRS-required text to our Bylaws to be approved at the Annual Meeting, it is important that we assemble now to have  adequate time to complete the process. With Mr. Carson’s assistance, we expect to be successful as have 100% of the other 170+ League applicants.

Thank you in advance for putting this important meeting on your calendar and thank you for answering the call again and again to push our agenda forward for the good of our local community, State, and country.

One more thing...please ask at least three of your friends, family, and co-workers to join you in membership in the League of Women Voters Orange County. Joining in September gives them 16 months at the annual rate. We need more committed warriors just like you!
