What is your educational background?
Bill Segal attended Orange County Public Schools (Lake Silver Elementary, Lee Middle and Edgewater High School) and the University of Miami, where he graduated with a degree in business.

What is your age? 60

What is your current occupation?
For the past six years, Bill Segal has served as Orange County Commissioner.  Previously, he ran several successful businesses.  He was a general contractor and a homebuilder.  He started a chain of restaurants, which he sold. Bill was even one of the first investors in the Sci-Fi Channel (now Syfy Channel).

With which civic organizations are you actively engaged?
Bill Segal has spent a lifetime serving community organizations. He is Chair of Metroplan (regional transportation planning) and an active board member of Orange County Research and Development Authority, Library District Governing Board, Orlando Museum of Art and Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs. Bill supports numerous cultural and philanthropic organizations (Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families Community Leadership Council, Cystic Fibrosis Association, UCP, WMFE and more) through membership, contributions and substantial participation.

Why are you running for this office, and what qualities and skills do you bring to this position?
Bill Segal is running for Orange County Mayor because he loves Orange County and wants to ensure that this is a community our kids and grandkids will return to and stay. That means plenty of high-wage jobs, safe neighborhoods and a strong public school system. Bill and his wife were born and raised here. Bill is the only candidate who has spent 36 years creating and running successful businesses here. His background makes him the most qualified to sit across the table from the next executive considering bringing great jobs here. His experience has given him the management skills needed to cut the cost and size of government. Assets like our new medical city, UCF, convention center and world-class airport make our region a magnet for business. Bill is the most able to tell the story of all these assets to the world and bring new jobs and opportunities here. 

           

What are the top 3 issues facing your community, and what actions would you take to address them if elected to office?

  • Attracting and growing high-wage jobs. Bill will recruit companies worldwide, with special focus on the region’s high-tech military training industry known as ‘modeling and simulation,’ already employing 14,000. Bill will encourage partnerships with our medical city to grow jobs in medical simulation.
  • Cutting cost and size of government.  Bill has created successful businesses and managed multi-million-dollar budgets. As Commissioner, Bill applies these management skills to County issues. For example, Bill’s expertise led him to scrutinize a company seeking $30 million in incentives. After he started asking questions, the company's shaky track record was uncovered, and incentives were withheld.
  • Safe neighborhoods.  Bill pledged to maintain the number of deputies patrolling streets and introduced a plan to increase their number without increasing taxes (by increasing inmates’ booking and daily fees). Comparable increases in Florida counties were successful. Bill’s plan could raise funds to hire up to 42 new deputies.

What is your experience working with large budgets, revenue shortfalls and oversight?
Bill has spent 36 years creating and running several successful businesses, which included managing multi-million dollar budgets. Responsibility for long-term strategic planning as well as day-to-day operations taught him about cutting and managing costs. Serving as Orange County Commissioner for the past six years, Bill played a central role in dramatically cutting the Orange County budget without cutting the number of deputies or firefighters on our streets.

    Segal asistió a escuelas  del sistema público del condado Orange (Plata de Lago Elemental, Lee Centro y Edgewater Altos Educan) y la Universidad de Miami, donde se graduó con un grado en el negocio.

    De 60 años de edad.

  2. ¿Qué es su ocupación actual?
    Durante los últimos seis años, Bill Segal ha servido como miembro de la comisión del Condado Orange. Anteriormente, corrió varios negocios exitosos. Fue un contratista general y un homebuilder. Comenzó una cadena de restaurantes, que luego vendió. Bill fue uno de los primeros inversionistas en el Canal de Ciencia ficción (ahora Canal de Syfy).

  3. ¿Con cuales organizaciones cívicas estas comprometido activamente usted?
    Segal ha pasado toda su vida trabajando con organizaciones de la comunidad.   4. ¿Cuales son sus cualidades para esta posición?
    Segal corre para Alcalde del Condado Orange porque adora y quiere que esto sea una comunidad donde nuestros niños y los nietos regresarán y permanecerán.  Eso significa muchos empleos con salarios altos, vecindarios seguros y un sistema escolar público fuerte.

    Bill y su esposa nacieron y se criaron aquí. Bill es el único candidato que ha pasado 36 años creando y corriendo exitosos negocios en el area. Su experiencia lo hace ser el calificado para la posicion, Su experiencia le ha dado las dotes y la  directiva necesarioa para cortar el costo y el tamaño del gobierno. Las ventajas como nuestra nueva ciudad médica, UCF, el centro de convenciones y aeropuerto de talla mundial hacen nuestra región un imán para el negocio.

  5. 6. ¿Cuales son los primeros 3 asuntos mas importantes para nuestra comunidad y qué acciones tomaría para estas?

    *Atrayendo y creciendo empleos con salarios altos. Concentrandose en compañías mundiales, con especialidad en la industria de alta tecnología. 

    *Cortando el costo y el tamaño del gobierno. Bill ha manejado con exito presupuestos millonarios y usara su experiencia para hacer lo mismo en el Condado Orange

    *Vecindarios seguros. Bill prometió mantener el número de policia que patrullan las calles e introdujeron un plan para aumentar el número sin impuestos crecientes.  Los aumentos comparables en otros condados de Florida han tenido éxito. El plan de Bill podría levantar fondos para emplear tantos como a 42 nuevos policias.

    Bill ha pasado 36 años creando y corriendo varios negocios exitosos, que incluyeron manejando los presupuestos multimillonarios de dólar. La responsabilidad para la planificación estratégica a largo plazo así como operaciones diarias lo enseñó acerca de cortar y manejar los costos.  Su porción como miembro de la comisión del Condado Orange durante los últimos seis años ha permitido que Bill jugara un papel central en el ajuste y cortes dramáticos del presupuesto del condado sin sin cortar el número de diputados o bomberos en nuestras calles.
