League of Women Voters Participates in the 2008 Teach-In Day with Orange County Public Schools

The League of Women Voters of Orange County is asking each of our members to consider volunteering for TEACH-IN DAY with Orange County Public Schools on Wednesday, November 19th.

The timing could not be better -- It's a fantastic opportunity to ride the wave of interest in this week's election and get our youth interested and involved in the political process. Your words might be just what inspires a future leader. Think about it!

You can volunteer at the school of your choice - elementary, middle or high school - and can teach one class period or an entire day. We will train you and give you an interactive program to use in the classroom, entitled "Citizenship & You: How You can Change The World." But of course, you can improvise and amend based on your own comfort level in the classroom.

If you are interested, and I sincerely hope you are, please RSVP to Lynn Eberle (Lynn.Eberly@hdrinc.com) who is coordinating our efforts. We will have a morning coffee meeting to hand out materials, answer any questions, and get you pumped up!

Volunteers Needed

YOUR help is needed for Post-Election Audit Observation:
Three Hours to help evaluate Florida's first paper ballot election audit.

Will you help?

The League of Women Voters of Florida has partnered with Florida Voters Coalition in a multi-state study of post-election audit observations to observe the audit of the November general election. Please consider volunteering to assist as an observer for this worthwhile project that will sample data in counties throughout the state.

  • The audit will take place AFTER elections so will not interfere with election day or pre-election activities.
  • Minimum three hour time commitment.
  • Volunteers do not have to be a registered voter to observe, but should be 18 years old.
  • Volunteers will need to participate in a Conference Call Training for one hour prior to November 8th.
  • You will be provided with a data collection form that asks for specific information.

National partners in this study include American Statistical Association and Verified Voting Foundation. The data collected will be compiled into reporting that will assist with advocacy for meaningful audits of paper ballots.

If you can volunteer, please contact Nancy Peed (nancypeed@cfl.rr.com) OR
