Why are you running for this office, and what qualities and skills do you bring to this position?

I am a dedicated community volunteer and public servant, not a politician. My husband and I have no business or other economic relationships in the City, which could be perceived as a conflict of interest or potential bias to the residents of District 1. I make decisions by evaluating every matter without preference or favoritism to any specific person or group by application of law, seeking resident opinion, and a consensus-building approach to divisive issues. I'm committed to finding equitable solutions, which unify rather than divide our community. I have an excellent regional understanding of West Orange County issues and a keen awareness of what makes Winter Garden unique. In serving the City as commissioner, I will be ruthlessly committed to fairness and neutrality.

What are the top 3 priority issues facing your community, and what actions would you take to address them if elected to office?

District 1 is a diverse mix of land uses packed into a tight area, requiring thoughtful urban planning. Balancing development will continue to be a challenge. One solution is more community input at the front end of projects, and focus on balancing rights and responsibilities of stakeholders without favoritism.

Winter Garden must continue to solicit variety in businesses (regardless of property tax reform), focusing on professionals, arts/culture, and office-based employment. The north of Winter Garden would benefit from broader employment choices to counterbalance retail opportunities brought by Winter Garden Village to the south.

Municipalities with thriving recreation programs can experience lower crime. Parks are proven to raise property values. Our Parks and Recreation Master Plan solicited resident input and created a plan that is fiscally reasonable. This Plan needs to get back on track fiscally and the Department's budget fully funded going forward.
