Why are you running for this office, and what qualities and skills do you bring to this position?

I have spent almost thirty years watching and participating in local government. I started attending local city commission meetings as a reporter in the late 1970s. I continued my interest in local politics through party organizations, campaign participation and civic organizations for the last 27 years. I own and manage two businesses. I have decades of valued corporate responsibility and have learned well from both my successes and my mistakes.

What are the top 3 priority issues facing your community, and what actions would you take to address them if elected to office?

  1. Our city finances are not in good shape, and without realistic and responsible leadership, a tax increase will be inevitable.

  2. We don't have the proper ordinances in place to allow reasonable and appropriate redevelopment, which could help us to strengthen the city financially.

  3. The ability of our city to continue to rely on volunteer boards (which are the backbone of our city business model) has been jeopardized by the lack of civility that has been present in our city.

As a city commissioner I will make sure that our priority is financial stability as we strive to preserve the charm and character of our city. I will set an example of openness, non-partisanship and citizen communication as a way to address the problems of incivility.
