Civic Organizations: As Mayor of Orlando, I am engaged with
hundreds of civic organizations on the local, state and national
levels. I'm proud of the work these groups do, in partnership with
my office, to help make our Central Florida community a better place.
On a personal level, I spend my free time volunteering with civic
organizations that primarily focus on our young people with the
goal of extending education and opportunity to our youth. I am also
a proud, long-time, little league baseball and flag football coach
for both of my sons.

Why are you running for this office, and what qualities and
skills do you bring to this position?
I am running for re-election because I want to make Orlando
the best place in America to live, work and raise a family. Over
the last five years, through partnerships and a shared vision for
the bright, unlimited future of our City, we have moved Orlando
out of financial crisis and made public safety a top priority. We've
attracted state-of-the-art healthcare facilities and created a regional
"medical city" at Lake Nona. We've sparked one of the
most remarkable downtown resurgences anywhere in the country. We've
worked tirelessly to improve all of Orlando's neighborhoods. And,
we've fought to extend educational opportunities to more children
launching a pre-kindergarten initiative and doubling the number
of high quality pre-kindergarten classrooms in the city. While we
have made great strides, the job is not finished. I want to continue
to build on the success and partnerships we've forged during my
first five years (...)

What are the top 3 priority issues facing your community, and
what actions would you take to address them if elected to office?
- Stonger neighborhoods, safer streets: We'll continue to enhance
the presence and visibility of our police department with more
officers on the street, continuing the successful Operation Delta
program which targets street level crimes, drug activity and repeat
offenders. Also, with the new appointment of Police Chief Demings
and her more than 25 years of experience, we will re-emphasize
community policing to get police officers even more integrated
into the neighborhoods. Additionally, Orlando will double the
neighborhood watch programs in high crime areas. Orlando will
focus on reducing juvenile crime by increasing after-school programs,
including faith-based programs. We will continue to implement
innovative solutions to make Orlando stronger and safer for all
of our families.
- Maintaining fiscal responsibility will continue to be a top
priority. Five years ago, when I became mayor, our administration
inherited a $23 million budget deficit. Within one month, we were
able to overcome that (...)
