LWVF: Action Alert on Renewable Energy Policy

March 4, 2009

The League of Women Voters of Florida supports energy conservation and use of environmentally sound renewable resources in order to provide maximum protection of public health and the environment.

Florida is poised to move forward on a renewable energy plan; the utility industry is lobbying the Legislature to allow nuclear power as an eligible resource in meeting the target of 20% renewable energy. Other states do not permit the inclusion of nuclear energy to meet renewable energy goals. Since nuclear energy is not a renewable resource, it should not be included in a policy intended to promote renewable energy.

Contact Governor Crist and voice your concern.

Contact the following legislative leaders. They sit on key committees that will have significant influence over this issue. Let them know that nuclear power has no place in a policy intended to promote renewable energy!
